Telemedicine Accelerates: A US Provider Hits Two Million Encounters, the Second Million in Under Three Years
TeleSpecialists, a physician-owned provider of remote neurology and psychiatry, said in a press release dated 12 October 2026 that it reached two million patient encounters on Friday, 9 October. These are the company's own figures, not an independent audit.
According to the release, the company began operating in 2014, reached its first million in late 2023, about 9.5 years later, and its second million in under three years, which it says is more than three times faster. Current volume is above 1,200 encounters a day, serving nearly 500 hospitals in 36 states with more than 200 board-certified specialists, covering every hour of every day.
The total includes emergency neurology, inpatient neurology, EEG and psychiatry, and excludes outpatient neurology and cognitive care, so total care volume is higher. The release quotes its CEO saying the number is more than a measure of growth, and that growth must never come at the expense of clinical quality.
The story is American, but its meaning is general: when reliable digital channels connect a specialist to a small or remote facility, the speed of getting care changes, especially in urgent cases like stroke where every minute counts.
What does this mean for your business?
If you run a hospital, medical centre or pharmacy group, the question is not whether remote consultation will spread but whether your systems are ready. It needs an electronic patient record that can be shared securely with a doctor outside the facility, digital user identities, organised bookings, and permissions that let each party see only what it should. Starting with one of these pillars, such as a unified electronic record across branches, is a practical step even before remote consultations begin.
